Reading this view. Each bar measures the latest observation against that market's highest recorded level.
Series depth. Comparisons drawn from a window that predates a market's first observation exclude that market from the sample.
- What it measures: The index shows how residential rents change over time. It does not show the monthly rent for a particular home.
- Sources: Most series use the actual rentals for housing category (COICOP 04.1) from a national Consumer Price Index. Where that series is unsuitable or unreliable, we use a separate rent index from a statistical office. Classification Detail
- Coverage: CPI rent data generally reflects rents paid by tenants, while separate indexes may use different methods. Check each location's source notes before comparing countries.
- Annual change: The percentage change compares the latest index value with the same period one year earlier.
