Zhejiang province is on the East China Sea, and its smaller islands make up much of China's most jagged coastline. It is often hit by typhoons and monsoonal rains, and is humid and hot. The province is mostly hills and plains.

Since the Open Door Policy, Zhejiang's economy has developed at an amazing rate. It is one of the country's fastest-rising provinces economically. Its capital, Hangzhou, is one of China's six ancient capitals and is noted for its beauty, culture and long history.
