The province of Uppland makes up the entirety of Uppsala County. Scattered throughout it are historic artefacts from the Iron Age, old castles and churches, grave fields, and runic stones. Iron is still forged in Uppland in much the same way in as it was in the 16th and 17th centuries, for this province is the birthplace of Swedish industrial development.

The capital of Uppland, Uppsala City, is a college town only 40 minutes’ drive from Stockholm. To the east of the Fyris River are the city’s residential, administrative, and commercial districts, including the main square. On the other side of the river is the city’s historic quarter, which includes the Domkyrka, the largest church in Scandinavia.
