The Setagaya ( a prime area) ward has the largest concentration of expat families in Tokyo. Reasons for this are its green spaces, excellent access to international schools, and easy commute to the city centre. The Tamagawa River runs through it, and its banks are popular for daily strolls, and picnics during summer.
A portion of Setegaya in Futako-Tamagawa, is currently being redeveloped into a high-rise commercial and hotel district, and high-rise apartments.
Shimokitazawa is a famous theatre district in Setagaya and in the city. In recent years many restaurants and bars have emerged on its blocks. There are a number of housing options here, but most apartments tend to be overcrowded.
