The harbourside suburb of Rose Bay (a prime area) exudes a sophisticated European atmosphere. It is one of Sydney’s most desirable and affluent suburbs, and its charm lies in its historical buildings.
The first is Rose Bay Lodge, a single-storey residence surrounded by lavish gardens adorned with five fountains. Fernleigh Castle, built in 1892, was constructed from a sandstone cottage dating back to 1874. The Castle is listed among Australia’s natural and cultural heritage places in the Register of the National Estate. The Victorian Classical Revival style building that is now the Rose Bay Police Station was once a gatekeeper’s lodge.
Rose Bay has many quaint shopping arcades and has scenic views of both the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is only a short walk away from Bondi Beach.
