Eastern Visayas consists of the provinces of Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar and Southern Leyte. It is an area frequently visited by storms blowing in from the Pacific Ocean and receives heavy rainfall throughout the year.

Agriculture is its main source of income with rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane and banana as the primary crops. The region's seas and inland waters are rich in saltwater and freshwater fish. Forest reserves are found in the islands and mineral deposits include chromite, nickel, clay, coal, limestone, pyrite, sand and gravel.
