Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino make up the Cagayan Valley. The region is resources-rich, a highly agricultural area with rice, corn, sugarcane, banana, coconut, and tobacco as its major products. The valley has abundant minerals, water and energy resources as well. As this area is frequently in the path of the storms and typhoons, development has not reached its full potential.

Cagayan is fast making a name for itself in eco-tourism. The Cagayan River is ideal for white-water rafting. Aside from this, spelunking, game fishing and trekking are favourite pastimes in the area.
