Queenstown was the first satellite town of Singapore. Housing was developed here in the 1950s and 1960s with a total of 19,372 dwellings built. More residential buildings have been built in the past few years. Queenstown has a hospital, shopping centres, IKEA, fire station, an MRT station, and a neighbourhood police centre.
Buona Vista is considered Singapore’s education hub as it houses the Ministry of Education and the Civil Service College. Universities, polytechnic schools and research institutes can be found here, many of them in the Singapore Science Park. The district is within what is known as Singapore’s Technology Corridor.
The area got its name from its beautiful view of the city, from neighbourhoods like Rochester Park, Wessex Estate and Nepal Hill. Buona Vista is served by the Buona Vista MRT Station.
Ayer Rajah is an industrial zone in the Queenstown Planning Area. It is Singapore’s nanotechnology hub and is home to many enterprises dealing with physics and technology.
