Properties in  Putuo ShanghaiPutuo is one of Shanghai’s poorer areas. Its population of over 1 million is swollen by migrant Chinese workers from the countryside. Streets are jam-packed, traffic is always heavy, and living standards are low.

Nevertheless, Putuo is becoming better off.  It is now average by Chinese standards in terms of its living and working environment. Plans to clean up the 14-kilometre stretch of the Suzhou Creek and transform it into a “paddling paradise” are in the works, as is better maintenance of at least 28 heritage sites, and setting up several museums.
