North Region is a busy, vibrant mixed commercial and residential area of homes, shopping centres, schools, and a few industrial estates. Hidden away in the bustle are a couple of historical areas, such as Yishun Town, where you can find some remnants of old rubber plantations.

A relatively isolated area still new to commercial development, the North Region retains a healthy amount of greenery amid its cluster of modern buildings. Among its wooded areas is Springleaf, a lovely urban village found along upper Thomson Road. It is being developed into a public park with scenic pathways, to create a peaceful and relaxing getaway for the region’s residents.

Singapore's largest nature reserve is found in North Region. The Central Catchment Nature Reserve attracts many nature lovers and tourists who come to visit the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari, Jelutong Tower, and the TreeTop Walk.

The region is also home to Singapore's largest new town, or planned community, Woodlands. Here you will find nearly 130,000 residences of many types, but mostly public housing units. Other new towns in the region are currently expanding or being built to meet the demands of a growing population. Sembawang New Town is a new development that is still expanding, while Simbang and Sungei Kadut are being transformed into residential areas.
