A suburban area, Centocelle is 4 km east of the city centre. It is the site of Italy's first airport, the Aeroporto di Centocelle, which officially opened in 1909 when Wilbur Wright gave a flying demonstration there, with King Victor Emmanuel III in the audience. In a letter to his brother, Wright remarked on the area's gentle slope and mild weather, making it an ideal place for a flying demonstration. There is easy access to the city centre by bus from here. It is a typical residential area, quiet and peaceful. It has some large park areas.
