A new suburban district in southeast Madrid, Moratalaz is home to some local celebrities. Spain's Crown Princess Letizia once lived here. It is a partly commercial commuter area that was part of the rural countryside before it was developed in the 1960s. It's quite easy get from here to Central Madrid by underground or bus. In 2001, the largest paella was cooked in Moratalaz and eaten by 100,000 people. It made the Guinness Book of World Records.
