Properties in Leme Rio de JaneiroLeme, which means “helm” in Portuguese, is named after an interesting rock formation in the area that looks like a ship’s helm. It is a small, quiet neighbourhood on the north side of Copacabana beach, with a large senior population.

At one end of the beach is the Morro do Leme, a hill with an old fort at its base. Leme also has a large number of hotels and restaurants to fit all budgets.

One of the most well-known films made in Brazil, Black Orpheus, was shot largely in one of Leme’s favelas, or slum areas.

Property prices here are not as high as in Ipanema, but are generally a bit more expensive than in Copacabana.
