The main attraction of Kalininsky is its wealth of social services. It is served by 10 hospitals, 35 clinics, 50 schools and four higher education facilities. It also has many lovely parks and an amusement centre

Like most of central St Petersburg, Kalininsky suffers from traffic congestion. Fortunately it has eight Metro stations, though these are largely concentrated in the west. The north of the district is the residential zone.

Many of the houses here were constructed in the 1980s and 1990s. Older houses can be found elsewhere, but only date back to the 1970s.
