Inner Sydney is the most populated area in Metropolitan Sydney, with a population density of 7,248 people per sq km. It also has the smallest household size at an average of 1.9 people per household. This is due to the general trend of the shrinking sizes of households and a greater proportion of smaller apartments to detached dwellings that are available in the real estate market.

This region consists of the Inner, East and West statistical areas of the Sydney Local Government Area, which includes the Sydney Central Business District, the posh suburb of Potts Point and gentrified suburbs such as Pyrmont, Surry Hills, Ultimo and Woolloomooloo.
