The coastal neighbourhood of Glória forms a triangle with the nearby areas of Flamengo and Catete. The present urban sprawl of Rio de Janeiro originated from this area, and the place still has many historic, well-preserved building and landmarks. Glória’s large, 19th century mansions are favoured by well-off Brazilians. They also love the area’s atmosphere, and after a period of decline for some decades, the neighbourhood is coming back. Flamengo Park and Catete Parks are lovely green areas with promenades, sports facilities, museums and marinas.
Glória is quite well-connected, with metro stations and bus services. It has a range of visitors’ accommodations that go from luxury 5-star hotels to budget hostels. Glória also has a lovely hilltop church.
