Esenler is a suburb district of European Istanbul. Many migrants from Anatolia and other parts of Asia settled here during the last 50 years. This excessive resettlement resulted in the rapid deterioration of the district’s buildings. It is now a poorly developed residential site where the population is high but the social infrastructures are inadequate.

Compared to the other districts, Esenler seems to have been left behind when it comes to industrialization. Though it has a big inter-city bus terminal, it does not have enough facilities for education and public health. The crime rate is also considerably high and there are no parks or big shopping malls.
