Boomtown Dubai is the most populous of the United Arab Emirates’ seven states. There are massive construction projects everywhere you go, and only about one fourth of the residents are UAE nationals, or Emirati. Foreigners of various nationalities crowd Dubai’s offices, hotels, bars, free zones, shopping malls and construction sites, either as visitors, residents or employees.

While not as oil-rich as its neighbour Abu Dhabi, Dubai is one of the top preferred destinations of foreigners seeking work abroad, next to the US and Singapore. It is also one of the most popular Middle Eastern destinations, giving a taste of Arabic culture in a rather modern, Western setting.
