Clontarf is mainly known for the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, during which the legendary Irish king Brian Boru was killed. It lies along the northern coast of Ireland by the banks of the River Tolk and the Naniken River. A historic wooden bridge leads to North Bull Island in Dublin Bay.

One of Ireland’s biggest parks, St Anne’s Park, is in Clontarf. The suburb also has some good restaurants, pubs, stores, banks, playing fields and a supermarket.
