The district of Ballymun-Whitehall is comprised of two suburban areas near Dublin Airport. Ballymun is a recently rehabilitated area, having once been home to an unwholesome low-income community that occupied the Ballymun Flats. With recent development it has become a well-run suburb, with many housing estates and apartment buildings. The village centre has a church, schools and plenty of shops. Ballymun also has some pubs, parks, and a public golf course as well. Whitehall, named for a house that once stood in the southern end, is home to several educational institutes, including the Plunket College of Further Education and St. Aidan’s Christian Brothers School. Its most famous landmark is the Holy Child Roman Catholic Church.
