Known for splendid beaches, the main Balearic islandsMajorca (Mallorca in Catalan), Minorca (Menorca), Ibiza (Eivissa), and Formentera are all popular tourist destinations. The capital city of this archipelago is Palma, on Majorca.

Majorca and Ibiza have an especially exciting nightlife, with their world-famous clubs and numerous bars and restaurants. Minorca is quieter and more suited to family holidays. The north part of the island is full of quaint fishing villages, while the south has a lot of sandy beaches. Much of the island is a protected reserve, offering such nature attractions as pine forests and rolling hills on which cattle graze.

Another particularly notable island is Cabrera, which has a national park and is a destination for cruises.

The islands also have some lovely coves and beaches. Not only is the Balearic Islands scenery wonderful, but the climate is sunny throughout most of the year. Visitors can also enjoy good food on the islands, especially the fresh fish.
